April students and athlete of the month This week the Board of Education recognized the junior/senior high students and athlete of the month, pictured above with their families. Students of the month are chosen by a committee of faculty and staff at the JHHS for excelling in citizenship, community service, extracurricular, leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship, and/or commitment. Congratulations to the April Students of the Month: Natalie Nixon (8th grade); Kaed Egan (10th grade); and Evan West (12th grade)! The April Athlete of the Month is Skylar Silk (12th grade), selected because of her sportsmanship, commitment, and/or leadership. Congratulations Skylar! |

Stroll the smART show next Thursday The annual JHHS smART show is taking place next Thursday, April 25 from 6-9 p.m. inside Ottawa Hills Junior/Senior High School. The smART show features hundreds of amazing student artworks and innovative and creative projects from other subject areas. Drawings, paintings, designs, photographs, graphic art, jewelry, stained glass, and ceramics are everywhere, including in the junior high wing. All community members are welcome. Pictured is last years' first place winner: Niki Malekpour's beautifully crafted artwork reflecting on childhood nostalgia. |

Art of the Marathon Race weekend is around the corner and as part of the Art of the Marathon partnership with the Glass City Marathon race organizers, K-6 Green Bears are creating artwork inspired by fitness. Last year dozens of our students participated in the Kids Race (pictured). Each student who creates a piece of art is eligible to participate for free in the Kids Run (ages 2 to 12) at the University of Toledo campus on Saturday, April 27, 2024, starting at 11 a.m. More information here. A reminder that the race runs through the Village of Ottawa Hills the morning of April 28, and road closures will be in effect. See the course map here |

| We all scream for ice cream The seniors and 6th grade classes will have ice cream sales in the elementary school during lunch periods over the next few weeks. Proceeds will benefit the classes of 2024 and 2030. Students can bring in cash for both sales; 6th grade ice cream sale days can also be prepaid here. | Exploring Big Futures in Building and Design The Foundry Career and College programming continues. OH community members Rich Effler, Mark Pawlaczyk, Todd Kime, and Rob Weaver will be offering an exciting panel discussion that will focus on career opportunities in architecture, plumbing, construction, interior design, project management, 3D rendering and models, and master carpentry on April 29 from 6:30- 8 p.m. Any student or parent interested in attending, please email dbroadway@ohschools.org |

| After Prom Prom is right around the corner, taking place on May 11. After Prom provides junior and senior students and their guests with a way to celebrate the night in a safe, secure, and substance-free atmosphere after the dance. | "Home to Home" Car Wash Home to Home is a community partnership between Ottawa Hills and Scott High Schools that helps foster community connections. The group will be hosting a car wash on Sunday, May 5 from 12-3 p.m. in the Ottawa Hills School parking lot. All proceeds will benefit Hope Toledo and their "mission is to support and ensure high-quality education, from preschool to postsecondary and trade school, for every young person in the city of Toledo, to create generational economic change for the betterment of our families and community." |
| Save-the-date: Exploring Career Pathways The district is part of a business advisory council through the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, and we are promoting an event that is hosted by Junior Achievement. Exploring Career Pathways will take place on May 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Glass City Center in downtown Toledo. We are encouraging parents to attend to explore career pathways for their children. | Join Us as a Volunteer Tutor at The Foundry! The Foundry is on the lookout for dedicated community volunteers to support our students in various subjects including pre-algebra, algebra I, Geometry, and Chemistry. During the 2024-2025 school year we will have the need for volunteer tutors from 8-10 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. at the junior/senior high school.
