Community Connections at Tiny Hooves Farm

On Thursday, Stacy Richards’ health class joined forces with members of Volunteer Focus for an impactful visit to Tiny Hooves Farm. The group spent the day assisting Dr. Bauer with several essential projects around the property. Students put their energy into painting a new deck and fence, laying rocks for the farm’s landscaping, and painting special rocks for grief support groups. Dr. Bauer was incredibly impressed with the effort, sharing, "Your kids were wonderful! They did so much work—it was great having them at the farm." A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Tracy for organizing such a meaningful trip.

Tiny Hooves Farm is a dedicated nonprofit organization that serves as a compassionate space for community healing, particularly through their specialized grief support programs. You can learn more about their residents and how to support their work by visiting their website at https://www.tinyhoovesfarm.org.

Beneath the Waves: 2026 Prom Recap

Guests at this year’s prom took a deep dive into an enchanting Lost City of Atlantis themed celebration at the Toledo Zoo’s Malawi Center. Surrounded by the unique atmosphere of one of the city's most iconic venues, students enjoyed an unforgettable evening of dinner and dancing.  Attendees were able to ride the African safari-themed carousel and the Safari-Rail through the savannah. Near the end of the evening, Jayden Dubois and Gracyn Connelly were crowned Prom King and Queen.

Prom would not have been possible without the dedicated team working behind the scenes. We extend our deepest gratitude to our junior class advisor, Gloria Kreischer-Gajewicz, and the student leaders who put in countless hours to bring the ruins of Atlantis to life. Junior class officers include: Sam Kapadia, Lowell Shreve, Thomas Lathrop, Mary Lathrop, Maya Choksey, and Ashleigh Speakman.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the staff and community members who ensured a safe and joyful environment for all our sea-dwelling guests. This year’s chaperones included Nikki Tolliver, Ben McMurray, Noreen Hanlon, Adam Fineske, Kate Fineske, Mandy Ricketts, Gloria Kreischer-Gajewicz, Chris Gajewicz, Janelle Fowler, Tom McCarthy, Ava Werdebaugh, Tim Adkins, and OHPD Officers Ben Wolke and Sara Motter. Special thanks to the Toledo Zoo security staff.

Thank you to everyone who made Prom 2026 a legendary night to remember!

The Fun Continued: After Prom 2026

After a quick transition from Prom, the fun continued at After Prom, and it was a spectacular success. Providing a safe, exciting, and memorable environment for our juniors and seniors wouldn't be possible without the incredible generosity of our community.

Mentalist Joe Skilton, who combines magic and psychology, along with multi-talented musician John Rush, entertained students throughout the evening.

An event of this scale requires a dedicated behind the scenes crew. We want to extend a massive thank you to the following parents and community members who gave their time and energy to make this night happen: Jeni Carter, Cecily Denny, Joel Denny, Amena Flanagan, Brian Flanagan, Jen Gruber, Brian Gruber, Lindsay Hickey, Julie Kwalcyck, Marc Paulenich, Julie Paulenich, Jen Shimborske, Katie Talbott, Gina Martinez, Sonya Chappell, Esther Lenahan, and Michelle Walker.

We are also incredibly grateful to the local businesses that stepped up with generous donations. From delicious food to amazing prizes, these contributors truly elevated the experience for our students: Bartz Viviano, California Yoga, Hannon’s Block, Domo, HAVEN Boutique Salon, Hill’s Detailing, Koala Berry, Yogaja, Poco Piatti, Bluebird Studio, Jersey Mikes, Blush Aesthetics, OHSPA, Ridgestone Builders, MBrowz, Zingos, Schrams Flowers, and Dollop Shop. A special shout out to the many Ottawa Hills families who donated individual gift cards.

Lastly, a special thanks to Chief of Police Carl Reuther and Officer Zoe Kozman of the Ottawa Hills Police Department for assisting with event security. Thank you all for helping our kids celebrate safely and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Make a Difference Honors Teachers and Students

On Thursday, May 7 Ottawa Hills teachers Tim Adkins and Jeremy Nixon and seniors Twayne Lai and Quinton Smith were honored at the annual I Make a Difference Breakfast sponsored by the Educational Service Center Lake Erie West and held at the Toledo Club. The two seniors were asked to select a teacher that had a profound impact on them during their time at Ottawa Hills.

Quinton chose AP Physics and AP Calculus teacher Tim Adkins and Twayne chose Science teacher Jeremy Nixon. Quinton shared, “Mr. Adkins’ intellect is rivaled only by an authenticity so genuine you’re happy chatting with him on end about quantum entanglement and the best Toledo steakhouses after four straight hours of Physics and Calculus.”

Twayne felt similarly about Mr. Nixon, “Mr. Nixon supported me in multiple areas: running 5ks in cross country, long jumping in track, and researching molecules and cells in scientific research. Most importantly, though, Nixon taught me to reframe failures – not to let the failure frame me.”

This fall, Quinton will attend the University of Pennsylvania as a student in the Jerome Fisher Program in Management & Technology (M&T). Twanye is headed to Northwestern University, where he plans to major in Chemistry and the Integrated Science Program.

These teachers and students pursue excellence, help shape our positive school climate, push the boundaries of our curriculum, challenge and inspire staff and students, and celebrate the success of others.  Congratulations, Mr. Adkins, Mr. Nixon, Quinton and Twayne. Congratulations to our amazing students and teachers. Special thanks to the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West for hosting the event.
