Goodbye, Mrs. Gaiffe
As I wrap up my year serving as interim principal, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank this incredible school community. It has been both an honor and a privilege to step into this role during a very difficult time. Throughout this year, I have felt embraced, supported, and truly part of your school family. Your kindness, cooperation, and commitment to our students made all the difference.
Thank you for sharing your children with me and allowing me to serve and grow with you. I will carry the experience—and the warmth of this community—with me always.
Welcome back, Dr. Bauer!
We are happy to share that Dr. Bauer will be returning full time to his role as principal on June 2. His presence and deep commitment to our students, staff, and families have been greatly missed. As we welcome him back, we also extend our continued support to him and his family.
Thank you to everyone in our school community for your care and strength during this past year. We look forward to moving ahead together with Dr. Bauer at the helm.
Best wishes to Ms. Janelle!
After four wonderful years as our school secretary, Ms. Janelle will be moving on to an exciting new opportunity in the private sector. While we will miss her friendly smile, organizational talents, and unwavering dedication to our school community, we are so proud of her as she takes this next step in her career.
Please join us in thanking Ms. Janelle for all she has done and in wishing her nothing but success and happiness in her new role!
Celebrating our retirees: Mrs. Keating & Mrs. Peete
This year, we celebrate the retirements of two beloved educators: Mrs. Keating, our dedicated first grade teacher, and Mrs. Peete, our amazing computer teacher. Together, they have inspired countless students through their passion, care, and commitment to learning. As they both begin this well-earned new chapter, we extend our deepest gratitude for their years of service and the lasting impact they've made on our school community. They will be greatly missed—and always remembered. Congratulations and happy retirement!
Classroom update
As we prepare for the next school year, we want to share a staffing update with our school community. Due to lower than expected enrollment in kindergarten for the fall, we will be reducing from four sections to three sections. We will continue to monitor enrollment at this grade level over the summer. At the same time, Mrs. Keating's retirement has created an opening in first grade.
We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Weaver will be transitioning from kindergarten to first grade to fill that role. Her experience, dedication, and strong connection with students make her a wonderful fit for this position. We thank Mrs. Weaver for her flexibility and continued commitment to our students, and we look forward to another great year of learning and growth ahead.
World Language expansion!
We're excited to announce that starting next school year, French and Spanish will be included in the Specials rotation for grades 1-6. Students will have the opportunity to explore world languages and cultures as part of their regular weekly schedule. Kindergarteners will have the opportunity next year to explore World Cultures in their Specials rotation with our knowledgeable EL teacher, Mrs. Marenelli.
These additions to our curriculum support our commitment to providing a well-rounded, globally minded education and we can't wait to see our students grow as young language learners!
Technology & Math Intervention
Our approach to technology instruction in the elementary school is evolving. Next year, instead of having Computers as a weekly special, Mrs. Nakashima will work with all grade-level teams on targeting the technology skills our students need. This is very similar to the work she already does with Math Intervention. Additionally, Mrs. Nakashima and Mrs. Sanderson will collaborate to incorporate some technology content into the STREAM time in The Wondry. We are thrilled to have Mrs. Nakashima on our team as a full-time teacher to help us refine this new approach moving forward. She brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to this new role, and we're confident students will benefit greatly.
