The Hearth is Wide and Warm: Ottawa Hills Choirs Celebrate the Spirit of Winter On December 6, under the direction of Vocal Music Director Hayley Hoss, the junior and senior high school choirs came together to present their annual winter concert, The Hearth is Wide and Warm. The evening featured a heartwarming collection of songs that celebrated themes of warmth, joy, and togetherness—perfect for the winter season. The Junior High Choir opened the evening with a lively and festive performance of Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, setting the tone for a cozy winter night. They followed with Bashana Haba’ah, and Hot Chocolate from The Polar Express, which brought smiles to the audience. The Junior Chorale performances included Christmastime Is Here,Winter Night, and a cappella rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The High School Concert Choir then took the stage and captivated the audience with their diverse and engaging program. They performed Winter with You,Winter Song, and All I Want for Christmas Is You. Adding a little humor to the performance, business teacher Troy Brown joined the Concert Choir as The Grinch for hilarious and fun You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch. The Choraliers, the school's premier vocal ensemble, closed the evening with a stunning array of songs that included the timeless Carol of the Bells, the traditional Hanukkah song S’vivon, the heartfelt and nostalgic Home Again, and, of course, Sleigh Ride. The concert concluded on an emotional note as the Choraliers dedicated Grace Before Sleep to Ms. Hoss. The song, which has held a special place in her heart since her own high school days. The evening was a true testament to the talent, hard work, and unity of the Ottawa Hills Choirs, and it left the audience feeling uplifted and full of holiday spirit. Congratulations to Hayley Hoss and our talented vocalists for a memorable and inspiring performance! A special thank-you goes out to accompanist Bob Duris, whose skillful piano playing provided the perfect musical foundation for the evening. The Ottawa Hills Music Theatre Association (OHMTA) also deserves heartfelt gratitude for their continued support of the vocal music program. |
