Empowering Young Scientists: Highlights from the 2025 OH Science Fair The annual Ottawa Hills Science Fair took place on Tuesday, February 11, in the Foundry at Ottawa Hills High School (OHHS). This exciting event showcased over 60 students who presented their results for 46 unique projects. The topics covered a diverse range of subjects, from microcystins to artificial intelligence to star clusters, reflecting the wide variety of scientific interests among the participants. An impressive panel of judges, including researchers, graduate students, and professors from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and the University of Toledo, along with local science educators, listened attentively to the students as they presented their findings. Using a detailed science fair rubric, the judges evaluated each project and offered invaluable feedback on how the students could enhance their work further. Their insights provided students with a deeper understanding of the scientific process and ways to refine their future projects. Congratulations to all the student scientists for their hard work and dedication! A special thank you goes to our science teachers—Gloria Kreischer-Gajewicz, Chris Gajewicz, and Tim Adkins—for their tireless efforts in organizing this year’s science fair. Spreading Joy Through Song: The Choraliers’ Singing Valentines Tradition Despite the challenging winter weather, the Choraliers once again shared the power of music throughout the Village and the greater Toledo area. This year’s stops included the always appreciative residents of the Sunset Houses in both The Woodlands at Ottawa Hills and Sylvania. In a heartwarming surprise, they also performed for our very own superintendent’s mother and delighted the elementary school “specials” teachers in The Wondry. Honoring tradition, the Choraliers performed a beautiful selection of songs, including Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, You Make Me Feel So Young, Someone to Watch Over Me, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, and She’s Got a Way. The Singing Valentines initiative is one of the many ways the Choraliers give back to the community. This year, they raised over $950 for the ALS Association, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing research and supporting individuals affected by ALS. Click here to donate. A special thank you to Cecily Denny for organizing this memorable event and serving as the liaison with our patrons. We also appreciate the Hajjar family for hosting a wonderful breakfast, the OHMTA for providing a delicious pizza lunch, and Eric Swisher for safely transporting our students through the snowy conditions. |
