Message from Andy:

Dear OH Parents,

We had a busy week with our 4th graders finding local fossils at the Fossil Park and our 5th Graders going to the Ottawa River to explore our ecosystem. Both trips were enjoyed by all who were involved. Thank you, parents, who chaperoned and drove to the events. With the weather changing and the leaves falling, make sure your kids are dressed appropriately. It never hurts to pack an extra set of clothes! The playground is underway. We look forward to having it completed. The kids have been watching the progress and are very excited. Please don’t forget to sign up for conferences. The link is below.

Peace,

5th Graders: Watershed Field Trip

On Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 8:30 - 11:00 AM, students participated in restoration efforts along a portion of the Ottawa River near Bancroft Street and Brookside Road. This field trip was a wonderful opportunity for students to become familiar with our local ecosystem and watershed. The Nature Conservancy and TMACOG will be helping with our restoration efforts.

Students engaged in the following activities:

Removal of Invasive Species (including using loppers and small hand tools - we will have eye protection for each student)
Water Quality Sampling - chemical analysis kits provided by TMACOG
Collection and Identification of Benthic Macroinvertebrates (students will be preparing for this in the classroom with the Lucas County Soil and Water Conservation District)
Invasive Species games

Run Club News

Run Club had a busy week with the highlight being a visit from the University of Toledo Cross Country team! OHESrunners had the chance to get tips from college runners, train together, ask questions, and take home autographed posters from the reigning MAC champions! We're especially grateful to Coach McDonough for finding time to share an afternoon with our young runners. Thank you!
