Girls cross country team makes school history with state championship title The girls cross country team made school history last weekend, capturing the Division IV state championship in a remarkable performance among a field of 214 runners from across Ohio. Natalie Nixon led the Green Bears with a fifth-place finish, followed by strong performances from Mercy Alamina, Emily Chen, Molly Mullan, Freya Klaas, Piper Padgett and Evelyn Sandretto. The team's collective effort showcased exceptional teamwork, grit, and determination to bring home the top honor. In a dramatic finish, Ottawa Hills edged out 17-time state champions Minster High School, marking a truly special victory for the Green Bears. The team was guided by dedicated coaches Jeremy Nixon, Mark Sandretto, and Emily Nixon, whose leadership and commitment have inspired excellence all season long. Congratulations Green Bears! |

Prepare to be ensnared by "Little Shop of Horrors" Tickets are on sale now for Ottawa Hills High School Theatre production of "Little Shop of Horrors!" The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises fame and fortune to the down-and-out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it blood. Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this-world origins and intent toward global domination! Performance dates: - Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.

 | Boys soccer advances to state championship game The boys soccer team advanced to the Division IV state championship game following an extraordinary semifinal victory. Game details: The Green Bears will face Cincinnati Summit Country Day School on Monday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus as they look to capture their first state title since 2008. Early release for jr./sr. high school: To allow jr./sr. high school students and staff the opportunity to support the team, there will be an early release day on Monday, Nov. 10, for junior/senior high school students only. All classes will meet on a shortened schedule, with dismissal at 12:05 p.m. after six 35-minute periods. Elementary school will operate on its normal schedule with dismissal at 2:50 p.m. as usual. Spirit bus: The district will sponsor a student spirit bus for the first 45 jr./sr. high school students who sign up and provide proof of a purchased game ticket. The bus costs $10 and includes lunch. Students must purchase their own game tickets. The bus will be chaperoned by school staff and depart Ottawa Hills at 12:15 p.m. on Monday. A minimum of 20 students is required for the bus to run.

 | Board of education seeking applicants for vacant seat The Ottawa Hills Local Schools Board of Education is accepting applications to fill a vacant board seat following the November election. Applicants must be registered voters residing within the district, be at least 18 years of age and meet all legal requirements of school board service under Ohio Revised Code. Letters of interest are due Nov. 14, 2025, at noon to Treasurer/CFO Tom Siloy at tsiloy@ohschools.org. The board will vote on the appointment in January 2026. The term runs from Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2027. |

Our students are exploring careers in finance, marketing, real estate, healthcare, business, entrepreneurship, accounting, insurance, legal services, and more. Local business professionals are invited to help students build an authentic networking experience at the first Green Bear Business Mixer Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in The Foundry. As an added opportunity, professionals can choose to mentor a student next semester, which involves approximately six hours of engagement between February and April. | Annual Thanksgiving meadow fun run returns Nov. 27 Kick off Thanksgiving Day by exploring the village meadows at the 11th annual Thanksgiving Day Meadow Fun Run. The approximately 5K run/walk begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, at the Brookside sledding hill (service entry to the meadow on Brookside Road between Talmadge and Evergreen). The course will be marked with orange painted arrows and follows the same route as previous years.
Meg Walter, village resident and owner of Kickback Coffee, will again serve a complimentary coffee and drink menu to all participants. The Kickback truck will be parked on Brookside from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. This is an unofficial, untimed, fun run/walk through the meadow. Runners and walkers of all ages and speeds are welcome. Participants run at their own risk and should wear appropriate shoes for meadow terrain. Many thanks to Rich Effler for organizing this community event!

 | No rummage sale this year The Rummage Sale (historically organized and benefitting AFS and band) will not take place this year. Thank you to all volunteers and shoppers who have supported the event through the years. Residents who have saved donations for the sale are encouraged to contribute them to Pilgrim Church or another organization of their choice. Pilgrim Church has accepted leftover items from the rummage sale in recent years and holds its own sale to raise funds and provide clothing and goods for those in need. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., through the end of March. The church is located at 1375 W. Sylvania Ave. in Toledo.
