Reminder: Early release at 1 p.m. Monday A reminder that the district will have an early release for all students on Monday, April 8 at 1 p.m. Students are permitted back on campus after 4:30 p.m. for extracurricular activities. See the release schedule for elementary students and adjusted schedule for JHHS students here. In preparation for the solar eclipse the fifth-grade students created several STEAM projects to view the solar eclipse safely. They traveled to other classrooms helping build "make and take" solar eclipse pinhole projectors for indirect viewing using kits from NASA's Challenger Center and Imagination Station. Each quarter elementary students are nominated by teachers and staff for representing PAWS traits (being positive, accountable, well-mannered and with self-control). | Did you know? Ottawa Hills Local School District rents our facilities to generate income. Over the next few months, Ottawa Hills will be hosting several Lourdes University Men's Lacrosse games as part of a facility rental agreement that will generate $4,000 to the district's general operating fund. These games will be open to the public and free of charge. Feel free to enjoy a game! | Reminder on spring state testing The district has begun administering state-required tests to grades 3 - 11. These tests provide teachers and the district valuable data that is used to inform our curriculum and instruction. At the high school level, the tests also afford students the opportunity to meet graduation requirements. Student attendance is very important during this testing period. | Annual smART show April 25 Mark your calendars for the annual smART show featuring amazing student artwork and innovative and creative projects from other subject areas. Hundreds of student artworks cover the hallways. Drawings, paintings, designs, photographs, graphic art, jewelry, stained glass, and ceramics are everywhere. Don’t forget to wander down to the junior high wing too. All community members are welcome. |
| The Art of Marathon Returns Last year dozens of elementary Green Bears participated in the free Kids Run as part of the Art of the Marathon partnership (pictured). Students will again be creating art in Mrs. Bodziak and Mrs. Danzeisen's art classes inspired by fitness which will be displayed at the University of Toledo during the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon Expo weekend. Each student who created a piece of art is eligible to participate for free in the Kids Run (ages 2 to 12) that is part of the Glass City Marathon weekend. Kids Races will be held at the University of Toledo campus on Saturday, April 27, 2024, starting at 11 a.m. More information here |
The Little Green Bear Ball is back The Little Green Bear Ball, presented by 3rd grade Girl Scout Troop 1108, is Friday, April 12 from 7-9 p.m. in the OHES new gym. Tickets can be purchased here, with a limited number of tickets available at the door. |
| Acting Out! beings today Imagination, discipline, teamwork, truthfulness, and trust will continue to drive the Acting Out! program. Leadership development will be a focus as well as public speaking. Interested students in grades 3-8 can bring the registration form, one per student, to the first day of session. | After Prom tickets on sale next week Prom is right around the corner, taking place on May 11. After Prom provides junior and senior students and their guests with a way to celebrate the night in a safe, secure, and substance-free atmosphere after the dance. Tickets will be on sale next week during lunch in The Foundry hallway. Payment can be made with cash, check (payable to “OHSPA” with “After Prom - student name” in the memo line), or Venmo (@OH-After Prom, indicate “After Prom Ticket - student name” in the memo line”. Students must return a signed waiver to attend the event. Donations are being accepted to support After Prom. Read more here |
| Save the date: OHSPA Spring Carnival May 17 Congratulations to 6th grade student Tianyi Yang for the winning carnival t-shirt design contest with her "Swing into Spring" theme. Carnival t-shirts can be ordered through OHSPA now through April 28 here. OHSPA fundraisers, like hot lunch and Carnival, have a big impact in our district. See what OHSPA helped fund last year here. |
| Exploring Big Futures in Building and Design The Foundry Career and College programming continues. Rich Effler, Mark Pawlaczyk, Todd Kime, and Rob Weaver will explore Big Futures in Building and Design on April 29 from 6:30- 8 p.m. Any student or parent interested in attending, please email dbroadway@ohschools.org |
