Keep Green Bear Nation Beautiful

I'm reaching out to you today with a request to help us keep our stadium clean and in great shape. Our students, staff, and families have been wonderful in making our athletic events a success, and we're so proud of our teams. We've noticed, however, that after some events, the stands and grounds are left with a lot of trash, and our maintenance staff has to work extra hard to clean up.

As a community, we can make a big difference. I ask that you please pitch in and help us keep our stadium clean by throwing away any trash you see, whether it’s yours or not. It's a simple act that makes a huge impact and helps us maintain a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you for your support and for being a part of what makes Ottawa Hills such a special place.

Go Green Bears!

There will not be a formal presentation by teachers, this is only an opportunity to meet the teacher and let them know the interest level of students.  If a teacher is unavailable during this lunch period, he/she will leave a desk outside of the room for students to sign their name and contact info.

Booster BBQ and Friday Night Lights

Last Friday evening, the Ottawa Hills community came together for the annual Booster BBQ, a festive event that raised money for the school's athletic programs. A huge thank you goes to Booster President Kim Grimm and her army of parent volunteers who organized the successful event.

The evening was made possible by the generous support of the Mancy family and Back 40 Catering, who catered the delicious food. Special thanks also go to Julio Rodriguez and Eric Swisher for their help with set-up and clean-up. The high school cheerleaders and marching band provided entertainment, adding to the fun and celebratory atmosphere.

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Ottawa Hills athletic programs, providing essential support for student-athletes and teams throughout the year.

Welcome to our Newest Green Bears!

During the week of August 11, seventh graders participated in a transition program designed to facilitate their entry into junior high. The program, which featured a series of presentations, tours, and activities, was organized by Nikki Toliver, Paige Bergsma, Mandy Ricketts, Ryan Wronkowicz, Ben McMurray, and several high school students. A highlight of the event was a panel discussion where high school students offered incoming seventh graders valuable insights and advice.

The orientation was structured to equip students with key skills for academic success, such as time management, organizational and study skills, and effective technology use. By providing these essential tools, the program helped students confidently navigate their new academic environment.

Additionally, school counselor Crystal Burnworth led an orientation for new high school students (grades 9-12) on Friday, August 15. We are pleased to welcome six new students, including Nicolo Pasquale, an AFS exchange student from Italy.

Green Bear Band Getting Back into the Swing of Things

The OHHS Marching Band got off on the right (left) foot with their annual marching band camp. Students have been busy since July 28th brushing up on their footwork and tuning in to make music for the gridiron. 50 students, led by senior drum major Sahil Parikh, took to the field and campus to prepare for this year's football season. Camp concluded with a Band Dinner on the front lawn, organized by band parents and complete with food, music, and game, and a concert for family and friends around the flagpole. Special thanks to Heather Phillips, Val Timmerman, and Jennifer Tremblay and many volunteers for their support and assistance! Come catch us at a home football game!

On Friday evening, the marching band's season kicked off with a stellar performance last Friday. They gave a special sneak peek at the Booster BBQ before bringing their energy to the football field for their halftime show against Gibsonburg. The band's fiery theme, "Caliente" (meaning "hot" in Spanish), was a perfect way to start the year.

A huge congratulations to instrumental music teacher Michael Leeds and our talented band. We can't wait to see what you do next!

Inspirational Messages from Student Leaders Clark and Friedman

Special shoutout to Student Council President Nina Clark and Senior Class President for sharing some inspirational and heartfelt messages for students, faculty, and staff.  The students are fortunate to have Nina and Emma as leaders. They are collaborative, smart, compassionate, and creative.

Nina shared, “I hope we all remember this year— to be intentional with our time. School can be more than something you just survive. If we are truly present whether it’s in the classroom, in the hallway, at practices, performances, games, at lunch— if we do that, we can walk away from this experience knowing that we gave it our best shot.”

To the seniors, Emma shared, “I am beyond excited to spend this year with each and every one of you. We have the power to make it the best year yet.

I want to hear all our ideas, and we have created a system that will help us do that! The senior planning committee will be open to anybody. Bring your ideas, your dreams for this year, and let’s make it happen. Details are coming soon, so keep an eye out if you are interested.

Here’s to our last first day! And let’s make our final year in Green Bear Nation unforgettable.”

Wishing the senior class all the best this year!
