Green Bear Invitational today Our campus will host the 53rd annual Ottawa Hills Green Bear Invitational today. Formerly known as the Green Bear Relays, this now invitational event will bring together 10 teams to compete in sprints, relays and field events. Note for OHLS parents: teams will start arriving on our campus around 3 p.m. today. The community is encouraged to attend to cheer on our Green Bears and applaud our amazing track and field seniors that will be recognized following the 4x400 relay. "Art of the Marathon" connects kids and fitness Congratulations to all Green Bears who participated in the Glass City Marathon-related races last weekend. Mrs. Bodziak worked with race organizers through the Art of the Marathon partnership, which allowed students to create art inspired by fitness that was displayed at Savage Arena during the race weekend expo. K-6 students who created artwork received a free registration to participate in the Kids Run. |
| Hello savings This week, Treasurer/CFO Mr. Siloy informed the Board of Education that the district will annually save $40,000, thanks to a new contracted phone provider. Mr. Siloy collaborated with Technology Director Mr. Hug and Superintendent Dr. Fineske to explore avenues for savings in the district's technology needs. In case you missed it in last week's newsletter: district leadership traveled to Columbus to advocate for increased state funding for our district. The Foundry kicks off Big Futures series This week the Big Futures series in The Foundry kicked off with Building and Design experts meeting with students interested in those careers. Big Futures is part of the career and college planning programming within The Foundry and brings in local professionals to share their fields with students. The Building and Design presenters included Rich Effler, Mark Pawlaczyk, Todd Kime, and Rob Weaver, who provided information to students interested in exploring career opportunities in architecture, construction, plumbing, project management, 3D rendering and models, and master carpentry. Students interested in job shadowing in Building and Design this summer should email Darrin Broadway before May 15. Thank you to The Foundry Parent Advisory Board for helping organize this well-attended event. Additionally, the Foundry Team is busy preparing for next year's Big Futures events and looking for community members who would like to help our students explore career opportunities in: education, health care, real estate, STEM, business, arts, environment, and law. | Welcome new Athletic Director, Ryan Wronkowicz This week, the Board of Education approved the hiring of Mr. Wronkowicz for the position of Athletic Director at Ottawa Hills Local School District. Mr. Wronkowicz has decades of experience in leading collegiate level athletics and holds a master's degree in Sports Administration from Valparaiso University. He will officially begin with OHLS on June 1. We are excited to welcome him to Green Bear Nation. Read more here |

| "Home to Home" Car Wash Home to Home is a community partnership between Ottawa Hills and Scott high schools that helps foster community connections. The group will be hosting a car wash on Sunday, May 5 from 12-3 p.m. in the Ottawa Hills High School parking lot. All proceeds will benefit Hope Toledo and their mission: "to support and ensure high-quality education, from preschool to post secondary and trade school, for every young person in the city of Toledo, to create generational economic change for the betterment of our families and community." |
| National Walk & Roll to School day is May 8 Communities across the country will be participating in National Walk & Roll to School day on Wednesday, May 8. This day helps to increase visibility of students that walk and bike to school, as well as promote pedestrian safety and staying physically active. Community members wanting to get involved can help at pedestrian cross walks by signing up to volunteer here. |
| Save-the-date: Exploring Career Pathways The district is part of a business advisory council through the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, and we are promoting an event that is hosted by Junior Achievement. Exploring Career Pathways will take place on May 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Glass City Center in downtown Toledo. We are encouraging parents to attend to explore career pathways for their children. Save-the-date for spring Scholastic Book Fair It's one of the most cherished memories from elementary school: visiting the scholastic book fair. Elementary classes will visit the book fair inside The Wondry May 10-17. See when your students classroom will be visiting the book fair (and consider volunteering) here. | After Prom seeking volunteers After Prom provides junior and senior students and their guests with a way to celebrate the night in a safe, secure, and substance-free atmosphere after the formal prom event is over. Volunteer here The community walk through tradition will continue with parents and community members invited to get sneak peek of After Prom as the committee finalizes set up. The community walk through will take place at 9 pm. After Prom for students begins at 11 p.m. |
| We all scream for ice cream Ice cream sale fundraisers continue in the coming weeks as the 6th grade class raises funds selling ice cream at elementary lunch times. Join Us as a Volunteer Tutor at The Foundry! The Foundry is on the lookout for dedicated community volunteers to support our students in various subjects including pre-algebra, algebra I, Geometry, and Chemistry. During the 2024-2025 school year we will have the need for volunteer tutors from 8-10 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. at the junior/senior high school.
