A Message from Mr. McMurray...

I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and relaxing break with family and friends. The fourth quarter began on Tuesday March 24. Students and parents can view PowerSchool to see final grades.  We encourage students to develop plans and set goals to ensure a strong finish to the school year.

April is filled with a variety of state assessments that are critical to each student’s growth and achievement.  Additionally, results from the assessments are used to inform our decisions regarding instructional strategies and educational programming and providing additional support for students. A testing schedule is listed below. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions as we prepare for the final stretch of the school year.

2. State Testing

Our Green Bears in grades 3-11 are ready to show what they know! State testing begins soon, and these assessments give our teachers valuable insights to strengthen curriculum and instruction. High school students will also have opportunities to meet graduation requirements through these tests. The Jr./Sr. High School testing will begin Monday, April 13.

Attendance is important during testing windows, and we want every student to shine after all the hard work they've put in this year. If your child needs to miss a test day, we'll work with you to schedule makeup testing. See the letter regarding state testing from Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Miller, with the schedule for all tests here.

Spring sports bring a fresh wave of energy as athletes return to the fields and courts. However, this season is notorious for its unpredictable weather, ranging from snow, freezing temps, rain, thundertorms, heat waves, etc. These shifting conditions often lead to last-minute postponements or cancellations to ensure player safety. Please check the athletic calendar regularly to stay informed.

Welcoming Our New School Nurse: Shance Grimes
Please join me in giving a warm welcome to our new school nurse, Shance Grimes.

Nurse Grimes will be a consistent presence in our building, available for most of the school day to support our students’ health and wellness needs. To ensure comprehensive care across the district, he will be collaborating closely with Nurse Laura Baird, who remains based at the elementary school.

Nurse Grimes brings a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for patient care. Having worked in long-term care, mental health, correctional facilities, and home health, he is well-equipped to help our students thrive and manage their health effectively.

When he isn’t in the clinic, Nurse Shance enjoys watching basketball and football, listening to music to stay centered, and spending time as a father to his two sons. He also finds great joy in tending to his plants. We are so fortunate to have his expertise and calm energy in our halls. Next time you are near the clinic, please stop by and say hello.

Ottawa Hills Students Shine at Regional Science Day

On March 14, 2026, the University of Toledo hosted the annual Regional Science Day, a prestigious gathering of the brightest young scientific minds from across Northwest Ohio. I am incredibly proud to announce that our Ottawa Hills students represented the Green Bears with distinction, showcasing months of rigorous research, creative problem-solving, and academic excellence.

Our students competed against peers from across the region, earning top honors and significant scholarships that underscore the strength of our STEM program.

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to the following students for their remarkable achievements:

David Seigar (Grade 11): Earned the College of Engineering Regional Science Day Scholarship ($500) for his project, Design of Safer Opioids Through CO2 Modification of Diamines.

Twayne Lai (Grade 12): Secured the Outstanding Physics Project Award ($100), the UToledo 3rd Place Overall Winner for Grades 11-12, and the Office of Naval Research Senior Division Award.

Molly Mullan (Grade 9): Received the Outstanding Physics Project Award ($100).

Saatvik Sivaguru (Grade 6): Captured the Outstanding Physics Project Award ($100) and was named the UToledo 3rd Place Overall Winner for Grades 5-6.

Joseph Ferreira & Andrew Riga (Grade 9 Team): Honored with the Planet Earth Sustainability Award ($100) for their exemplary exploration of local sustainability issues.

Lily Denk & Sophia Denk (Grade 10 Team): Awarded the B-Wiser Scholarship to the College of Wooster’s summer camp for their high-scoring project.

These achievements are a testament to the hard work of our students and the incredible mentorship they receive. A special thank you goes to our dedicated advisors, Dr. Gloria Kreischer-Gajewicz and Jeremy Nixon, whose leadership continues to elevate our science program. We also extend our gratitude to the entire Ottawa Hills Science Department for providing all our students with a solid scientific foundation that allows them to compete at such a high level.

Our success would not be possible without the unwavering support of our community partners. We wish to thank the Ottawa Hills Schools Foundation and the Ottawa Hills Schools Parent Association for their ongoing commitment to STEM education. Your investments provide the resources and opportunities that allow our students to innovate and excel.

Congratulations to all our participants for their curiosity and perseverance. You make Ottawa Hills proud!

A standing ovation to the extraordinary cast and crew of Grease!

This year's production was a blend of high energy, nostalgia, humor, and heart. More than 60 students brought this iconic story to life through powerful performances, high-energy musical numbers, and immersive stagecraft.

Kudos to Director Grace Wipfli, Music Director Hayley Hoss, Producer Darrin Broadway, and Choreographer Havin Hoobler for their vision, dedication, and guidance. Under their leadership, students gained invaluable experience in performance, collaboration, and creative expression.

We also extend our deepest appreciation to Set Designer Daniel Tobias and Technical Director Ace Medina. A special shout-out goes to Costume Designers and Creative Visionaries Erica Kelm and Audrey Kelm for their stunning work in capturing the spirit of the show.

Thank you to Lighting Designer Claire Hawkins, Sound Designers Owen Carter and Eddie Phillips, Ticket Coordinator Joy Hajjar, and our incredible crew of parent volunteers. Your behind-the-scenes efforts made all the difference in making this production a success.
