Attendance Reminders from Mrs. George...

With seven weeks left in the school year, I would like to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of regular school attendance. When students are consistently present and on time to class, they are more likely to stay engaged, perform well academically, and build strong connections with their peers and teachers.

Here are a few key reminders:

  • Email jhhsattendance@ohschools.org if your child is absent. If the absence is due to illness or a medical appointment, we ask that you provide a doctor’s note when possible.

  • Excessive unexcused absences or tardies may lead to academic challenges and potential attendance interventions.

  • If your family has a pre-planned trip or sporting event, please email Jasa George at jgeorge@ohschools.org to request a permissible absence form at least five days in advance so we can work together to ensure your child stays on track.

Hope Toledo, Educating our Community, from Cradle to CareerChallenge Crew Supports Hope Toledo with Sweet Fundraising Success

This week, our outstanding Ottawa Hills Junior/Senior High School Challenge Crew hosted a series of bake sales to raise funds in support of Hope Toledo. Thanks to the generosity of our students, families, and community members, the effort was a sweet success!

Earlier this school year, Challenge Crew members had the opportunity to learn from Deb Monagan and Mona Shousher of Chicks for Charity, who inspired our students by sharing meaningful ways to get involved in service and philanthropy. It’s incredibly rewarding to see our students put that inspiration into action through purposeful community engagement.

Hope Toledo is a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting equitable access to education—from preschool through postsecondary—for every Toledo resident. Their mission focuses on addressing systemic barriers, expanding opportunities, and fostering a thriving community through education and wraparound support services. Learn more about their impactful work at www.hopetoledo.org.

We are proud of our Challenge Crew for their leadership and compassion. Their efforts reflect the heart of what it means to be a Green Bear—serving others, giving back, and making a difference.

Irene Sun Named BCSN Scholar of the Year, Awarded $10,000 Scholarship

Congratulations to Irene Sun! On Friday, our Ottawa Hills community had the pleasure of welcoming BCSN’s Jodi Dixon and a camera crew for a special surprise presentation during Irene’s AP Statistics class. Irene was awarded the $10,000 BCSN Scholar of the Year Scholarship, made possible through the generous support of Siena Heights University and Directions Credit Union.

Each year, BCSN recognizes eight exceptional seniors from the Buckeye Broadband viewing area through its BCSN Scholar Spotlight program, which runs from October through April. In April, each Scholar Spotlight recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship. Among them, one standout student is selected as the Scholar of the Year and awarded a renewable $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 per year for four years).

To be eligible, students must be high school seniors within the Buckeye Broadband Toledo service area and plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.

Earlier this school year, Irene was honored as one of the eight BCSN Scholars—earning a $1,000 award and the opportunity to compete for the program’s top prize.

Irene’s remarkable dedication, academic excellence, and passion for learning have truly distinguished her. She will attend Yale University next fall, where she plans to study biochemistry and pre-med.

This award is a well-earned recognition of her achievements and a celebration of her bright future. Please join us in congratulating Irene on this incredible honor!
