Singing Valentines Share the Love

The tradition of the Choraliers sharing love on Valentine's Day continued this year with sold-out bookings. The Choraliers sang their way around Ottawa Hills and the Toledo area, serenading many with their beautiful voices. All proceeds from the private bookings are donated to help Ohioans in need through the Neighborhood Bridges organization.

Swimming to States

The boys' and girls' swim teams finished 4th overall at the district qualifier last weekend. According to coach Sydney Holke, “We had a fantastic day... Plenty of fast swims on our first stop in the OHSAA tournament. The team accumulated over a minute and 20 seconds in personal record time drops and four school records were broken.” The swim and dive teams have been making a big splash this season.

UPDATED FAQ on District Finances

In case you missed it last week, the district has updated our FAQ on District Finances. In the continued effort to be transparent and fiscally responsible, the district updates this FAQ on a regular basis. You can read all the Q&A on our website here.

Coach Hardman Visits Elementary School

Recently, Coach Chris Hardman has been visiting the elementary school to give character talks to students in grades 4-6. This week, he spent some time with the youngest Green Bears on the elementary playground. With decades of involvement in Ottawa Hills athletics, Coach Hardman serves as a great example of what it means to be a Green Bear.

Reminder: No School Monday

Thank you again to parents and caregivers for allowing teachers and staff to engage in planned professional development today. Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, February 19, in observance of Presidents' Day. Enjoy the long weekend!

Chicago Cast Announced

Congratulations to the cast of Chicago. This Ottawa Hills Music and Theatre (OHMTA) production will run April 12-14. See the cast list and read the synopsis over at the OHMTA website here.

ACT-Grade 11

All juniors are taking the ACT the morning of Tuesday, February 27. This is a state-funded opportunity for our students to take the test and have their scores sent to the colleges or universities of their choice. Attendance on that day is very important and students should anticipate a long morning with a delayed lunch hour.

Service Learning meeting Tuesday

The next Service Learning In Kenya (SLIK) program is taking place this June and as many OHHS students have experienced in the past, this is a unique opportunity for your rising junior or senior student to spend part of their summer volunteering as teachers in a primary school in rural Kenya. The trip also includes a hike on Mt. Kenya and a visit to one of Kenya’s famous game reserves. Fred Roberts, SLIK’s director and OHHS grad of ‘79, will be giving a presentation about SLIK on Tuesday, February 20 in the JHHS library at 6:30 p.m. You can also learn more about SLIK here. Kids Heart Challenge

On Monday, February 26th, Ottawa Hills Elementary School will be taking part in Kids Heart Challenge. This event raises funds for the American Heart Association. The money raised helps support ongoing research and education programs in the fight against heart disease. In addition, it qualifies our school for certificates toward physical education equipment.

The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and effective way to teach heart-healthy living. It emphasizes the importance of physical activity as children take part in something they enjoy. This event will include jump rope and a variety of other activities that keep kids moving and active.

Did Little Mermaid, Jr. wow you? Check out Acting Out!

Acting Out! is an acting/leadership development program for students in grades 3-8. Focus areas include: acting & movement, audition tips, expressive speaking, technical theatre, and vocal performance. Registration information and more details at OHMTA here.

Save-the-date: Art Fair

The annual Elementary School Art Fair is just around the corner. Families with last names A-K are invited to attend on Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 7:30-8 a.m. Families with last names L-Z are invited to attend on Thursday, Feb. 29 from 7:30-8 a.m. OHSPA is sponsoring a "Calder Café" in the OHES gym. All students in grades K-6 will have art displayed in the gym and throughout the halls.
