 | Rose’s Message Dear Families, As we head into the final week of the third quarter, I want to thank our families for your continued support of learning and school attendance. We are introducing a new communication step regarding student punctuality. Parents of students who have been tardy more than eight times since January 1 will receive an email notification. This communication is an effort on our part to help keep families informed, as parents may not always realize how often their child has been tardy. Arriving at school on time is an important part of building strong academic and life habits. Students who arrive ready to learn at the start of the day are better able to engage in instruction and begin the day positively. Please remember that the tardy bell rings at 8:10 a.m. Students should be seated and prepared to begin learning when the bell rings. Thank you for helping us promote strong attendance, punctuality, and a positive learning environment for all students. March 23 is Teacher PD day. We will welcome students back on March 24. I hope you enjoy the upcoming Spring Break. Rose Gaiffe Elementary Principal rgaiffe@ohschools.org |

 | Kid Heart Challenge Dear Parents and Guardians, On Monday, April 1st, Ottawa Hills Elementary School will be taking part in Kid Heart Challenge. This event raises funds for the American Heart Association. The money raised helps support ongoing research and education programs in the fight against heart disease. In addition, it qualifies our school for certificates toward physical education equipment. In short, our school is joining the fight against the nation’s number one killer – cardiovascular disease and stroke. The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and effective way to teach heart-healthy living. It emphasizes the importance of physical activity as children continue lifelong fitness activities. The Kids Heart Challenge also provides children with a sense of community support in raising funds for Finn’s Mission and the American Heart Association.
What is Finn's Mission? Finn's Mission is a way for students to learn more about heart health while supporting the mission of the American Heart Association! Students and their families will learn Hands-Only CPR and the warning signs of a stroke. You never know when YOU will be the "heart hero" for someone. Family members and friends can support their child’s participation through voluntary contributions. By using the KHC collection envelope, individuals can easily keep track of their collections. Contributors can also earn thank-you gifts for their donations. There are thank you gifts for each donation level, and they can add up! It is a win-win for everyone. Please take the time to read the instructions on each KHC envelope. We do ask that contributions come from family and friends, and children DO NOT go door to door. Please make contributions out to The American Heart Association and return any contributions that are collected to Mr. McKee by Friday, April 24th. If you have any questions about the Kids Heart Challenge event, please feel free to contact me at school. In Health and Fitness,
Kevin McKee Kids Heart Challenge Coordinator

April State Testing Dear Parents and Guardians, The district will soon be administering state-required tests to grades 3 through 11. These tests provide teachers and the district with valuable data that is used to inform our curriculum and instruction. Below is a schedule of those tests for your reference. Student attendance is very important during this testing period. Both students and teachers have spent an admirable amount of time working through the curricula these tests are designed to assess, and we find that students perform best when tested with their peers. But, should a student be unable to attend school during the regularly scheduled testing period, we will make every effort for him or her to make up the missed test(s) upon returning to school. For more information about state tests, you can go to Education.Ohio.Gov or feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Dr. Bill Miller Assistant Superintendent |
