| OHLS welcomes new Athletic Director Pending approval from the Board of Education, Mr. Ryan Wronkowicz has accepted the position of Athletic Director at Ottawa Hills Local School District. Mr. Wronkowicz has decades of experience in leading collegiate level athletics and holds a master's degree in Sports Administration from Valparaiso University. Green Bears brave the stage at "Barbie" themed talent show A big shout out to all the elementary school talent show performers who braved the stage this morning in front of their peers and parents. Talents displayed included dancing, singing, playing instruments, a magic show, and even a stand-up comic act. A real crowd favorite was the Barbie themed dance performed by some of our wonderful elementary teachers and staff. See the full program of performers here |
smART show recap This week the junior/senior high school was transformed into a creative space showcase with the annual smART Show. Hundreds of student artworks were on display, including drawings, paintings, designs, photographs, graphic art, jewelry, stained glass, ceramics, and more. Congratulations to the 2024 smART show prize winner, Vaughn Mackey! See the smART show program, featuring all projects, here. | Advocating for fair funding This week Superintendent Dr. Adam Finekse and Treasurer/CFO, Mr. Tom Siloy, traveled to Columbus with Board of Education member Mrs. Timmers. They met with elected officials to advocate for more fair state funding for our school district. See a snapshot of how the Ohio Fair School Funding Plan currently funds our district here |

| Good luck, runners! Race weekend is here. A reminder that roads throughout Ottawa Hills will be closed starting at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 28. See the course map here. Good luck to the many staff that will be participating this year, as well as to our younger Green Bears running the 1-mile Kids Race. A reminder that through the Art of the Marathon partnership, OHES students can register for the kids race for free, and their artwork will be displayed at the race expo. More details here. |
| Exploring Big Futures in Building and Design The Foundry Career and College programming continues. OH community members Rich Effler, Mark Pawlaczyk, Todd Kime, and Rob Weaver will be offering an exciting panel discussion that will focus on career opportunities in architecture, plumbing, construction, interior design, project management, 3D rendering and models, and master carpentry on April 29 from 6:30- 8 p.m. Any student or parent interested in attending, please email dbroadway@ohschools.org |
| Swing into spring at the OHSPA Spring Carnival The annual Ottawa Hills Schools Parents Association (OHSPA) Spring Carnival is Friday, May 17. OHSPA fundraisers like this are a great way for the community to have fun while supporting our students and staff. | We all scream for ice cream The seniors and 6th grade classes will have ice cream sales in the elementary school during lunch periods over the next few weeks. Proceeds will benefit the classes of 2024 and 2030. Students can bring in cash for both sales; 6th grade ice cream sale days can also be prepaid here. | "Home to Home" Car Wash Home to Home is a community partnership between Ottawa Hills and Scott high schools that helps foster community connections. The group will be hosting a car wash on Sunday, May 5 from 12-3 p.m. in the Ottawa Hills High School parking lot. All proceeds will benefit Hope Toledo and their mission: "to support and ensure high-quality education, from preschool to postsecondary and trade school, for every young person in the city of Toledo, to create generational economic change for the betterment of our families and community." |
| National Walk & Roll to School day is May 8 Communities across the country will be participating in National Walk & Roll to School day on Wednesday, May 8. This day helps to increase visibility of students that walk and bike to school, as well as promote pedestrian safety and staying physically active. Community members wanting to get involved can help at pedestrian cross walks by signing up to volunteer here. |
| Save-the-date: Exploring Career Pathways The district is part of a business advisory council through the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, and we are promoting an event that is hosted by Junior Achievement. Exploring Career Pathways will take place on May 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Glass City Center in downtown Toledo. We are encouraging parents to attend to explore career pathways for their children. | After Prom Prom is right around the corner, taking place on May 11. After Prom provides junior and senior students and their guests with a way to celebrate the night in a safe, secure, and substance-free atmosphere after the dance. It takes a village to put this event together. The After Prom Committee asks you to please consider helping by: Donating $10-15 gift cards to local restaurants, coffee shops, gas stations (can be dropped off at junior/senior high), or by helping out before/at after the event. | Be kind to your mind May is Mental Health Awareness month and on May 17 Green Bears will be invited to wear shades of green as a way to bring attention to the prevention and treatment of Mental Health challenges.
