Leveraging partnerships for transformative experiences Mayor Mark Thompson recently reached out to science teacher Paul Genzman with an exciting opportunity for students in the Environmental Club. The Mayor invited the students to collaborate with the Village of Ottawa Hills, the Toledo Zoo, the Nature Conservancy, and Epworth Church in a project aimed at strategically removing invasive bamboo shoots located behind Epworth. Students helped remove 3 truckloads of bamboo that was then transported to the Toledo Zoo, where it will be used to feed some of the “pickier eaters.” While at the zoo, students had the opportunity to do a behind the scenes tour thanks to funding from the Ottawa Hills Schools Foundation. |
