This week, 5th-grade students worked with TMACOG (Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments), which oversees the chemical water quality sampling, and The Nature Conservancy, which oversees the invasive species removal and education of invasive plants in our area. Students looked at benthic macroinvertebrates and biological water quality to test the overall health of the Ottawa River. Earlier this year, Lucas County Soil and Water Conservation District came into all 5th grade science classes to introduce some local invertebrate species that they may see when they are at the river. Students practiced using a dichotomous key to help identify different species. Thank you, Mrs. Genzman, for keeping science fun and interesting! |
