Agora 2026

Information for Non-Traveling Students in Grades 9-12

A Message from Matt Chappuies:

Ottawa Hills’ Agora Program is on the horizon! The theme this year is “Going All In!” Our programs have been thoughtfully designed to encourage students to discover new interests and passions, embrace new challenges, and truly go all in!  It is my hope that students have an enriching experience during this very special week! The week of November 16-20 will be no ordinary week!

Non-Traveling Junior High Students (grades 7 & 8) will receive Agora information from Mrs. Tolliver at a later date.

Below is a link with high school program descriptions that were shared with all students participating in the on-campus Agora experience.  These selections are for high school-aged students only. Please take some time to review the available programs.

While we cannot guarantee placement in a first-choice program, we will do our best to assign each student to one of their top four selections.

The sign up window opens Tuesday, September 22 at 6:00pm and closes Friday September 25 at 6:00pm. The links will be sent to student email accounts.

Payments are due November 2, 2026.

Thank you in advance for your time, flexibility, and support in making Agora 2026 a memorable experience for our students!  I am super excited to be working on this experience to share with our students!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23. There will be no school for students on those days.

Sign ups for conferences will go out on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:00pm.

Conference FAQs:

Q: Will you send me a piece of paper to sign up for conferences?

A: No, we are entirely electronic.

Q: What if I click all of the boxes, but I never received an email from the website allowing me to sign up?

A: First, check your spam account for an email from PTCfast.com. Next, try again with your email or an alternative email you use in your family. If that still does not work, call the main office and we can help you out.

Q: What if a teacher I want to meet with does not have any open conference times that work for me?

A: Please contact that teacher directly to schedule a time outside of the standard conference dates/times. Emails for all employees in the district are the first letter of their first name, their entire last name, @ohschools.org. For example: Amanda Neuendorf aneuendorf@ohschools.org

Q: Do I need to meet with all of my student's teachers at the Jr./Sr. High School?

A: It is completely up to you.  Although very helpful for parent/teacher communication, these are not required conferences.

Q: Do I need to meet with second semester teachers at the Jr./Sr. High School?

A: We highly recommend waiting to meet with second semester teachers until your student is in those classes.

Q: Does my student need to attend?

A: Students only need to attend upon request of the teacher.

Q: Will I be reminded of these conferences?

A: Yes! The website will send automatic reminders two days before conferences.

Unplugged & Connected: Ottawa Hills Junior High Students Enjoy Screen-Free Cookout

Last Thursday, Ottawa Hills Junior High students enjoyed an after-school cookout. Special thanks are due to OHSPA for sponsoring the event and generously providing the lemonade, hot dogs, and chips! This event gave seventh and eighth graders a much-needed break from screens and provided an opportunity to enjoy some old-fashioned fun and socializing with their peers. Despite being a little wet from a day of rain, the event continued and the students had fun socializing and playing cornhole and spikeball throughout the afternoon.

The event was organized by Junior High Student Council advisor Janelle Fowler and the entire junior high staff. Additional thanks go to the staff members who helped make the night a success: Kathy Benecke, Paul Genzman, Dan Feuerstein, Jake Hall, Dylan Bush, Nicole Silvers, Mandy Ricketts, Nicole Tolliver, Jake Byrley, and Karen Fischer.

We would also like to thank the eighth graders for stepping up to create a positive and supportive junior high climate focused on the academic and social-emotional well-being of all students. The seventh graders are doing a remarkable job transitioning to the junior high and getting acclimated to the new environment. We greatly appreciate the efforts of both staff and students in creating such a special, exclusive junior high event.

Unlocking Lake Erie: High Schoolers Dive into Hands-On Science at Stone Laboratory

Paul Genzman’s Environmental Science students spent the day at OSU’s Stone Lab on Gibraltar Island near Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island. Led by Stone Lab instructors, students conducted a variety of tests on the water near Rattlesnake Island measuring wind speed, air and water temperature, water clarity, and wave height.  They took water samples to look for the presence of zooplankton, phytoplankton, fish, and benthic invertebrates.

“The trip to Stone Lab is always one of the most memorable and favorite days in AP Environmental. Students appreciate the hands-on experience and learning about Lake Erie and the surrounding watershed.  They can see the interconnectedness of the various systems that create the larger ecosystem. It’s hard to replicate this experience in the classroom.  We are truly grateful to have the opportunity to make the trip and work with some incredible instructors from Ohio State,” shares teacher Paul Genzman.

Following the trip to Stone Lab, Genzman’s environmental science classes will visit the Ottawa River to conduct similar tests to the ones they did at Stone Lab.  They will compare the chemical and physical properties of water at each location.  In recent years, the Village of Ottawa Hills has made considerable improvements to the river through various community cleanups, including the removal of a dam and of invasive species.

Thanks to Paul Genzman and Ottawa Hills Schools Parent Association for making the field trip possible and to our chaperones Liz Puskala, Meredith Douglas, Elias Hajjar, Chris Hamilton and Tim Furey.

It is with great pride that we recognize four of our outstanding Ottawa Hills Junior/Senior High School seniors for their exceptional academic achievements in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program!

Zach Rashid and Thomas Lathrop have been named 2026 National Merit Semifinalists. This prestigious honor places Zach and Thomas among the top high school seniors nationwide, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Their dedication, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to learning have earned them the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships.

"We are incredibly proud of these students. They continue to demonstrate excellence in their academic endeavors, setting a benchmark for hard work, intellectual curiosity, and leadership within our school community. We look forward to seeing all that Zach, Thomas, Gates, and Henry will accomplish as they prepare for the next chapter of their academic journeys," shares Principal Ben McMurray.

Please join us in celebrating Zach, Thomas, Gates, and Henry for these remarkable accomplishments. Their hard work and perseverance exemplify the best of Ottawa Hills, and we are honored to celebrate this moment with them.
