OHSPA Carnival tonight at OHES 6-8 p.m.

The annual Ottawa Hills Schools Parents Association Spring Carnival is taking place tonight at the elementary school. Games, inflatables/bouncy houses, prizes, DJ, food trucks, and more will be around the elementary campus. Wristbands required ($20 K-6th grade; $5 for toddlers). Socks required for inflatables/bouncy houses. 6th grade students are welcome to enjoy the carnival early from 5-6 p.m. Details here.

Late Start Reminder

A reminder that Monday, May 20 is the last of four planned late start days. All students will begin school at 10 a.m. This late start allows teachers time for professional development meetings.

Exam jam in The Foundry

The Foundry will be available for students to participate in a number of study opportunities as exam week approaches. Tutors are available during the school day and after school.Please contact The Foundry staff Rebecca McLean or Darrin Broadway if you are looking for help for your student, or have questions. Students are reminded to use test-taking strategies and breathing techniques to do their best and to manage stress. Additionally, the 360 Immersion Room will be available for breathing and stress relief.

Congratulations May Students and Athlete of the Month

This week the Board of Education recognized the junior/senior high students and athlete of the month. Students of the Month are chosen by a committee of faculty and staff at the JHHS for excelling in citizenship, community service, extracurricular, leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship, and/or commitment. Congratulations to the May Students of the Month: Tijan Alsultan (7th grade), Quinton Smith (10th grade), Junjal Raskar (11th grade), and Sarah Stone (12th grade).

The May Athlete of the Month is selected by coaches/staff because of sportsmanship, commitment, and/or leadership. Congratulations to May Athlete of the Month Reece Hill (12th grade). Reece recently broke the school record by surpassing 200 lacrosse goals.

Updated Five-year forecast

This week treasurer/CFO Mr. Siloy presented the Board of Education with the April 2024 financial report and the updated May five-year forecast. Ottawa Hills High School is seeking applicants for the position of high school guidance/college counselor. Our wonderful Mrs. Nagy will be moving on to other opportunities next school year. Questions can be directed to JHHS principal Ben McMurray.

Beloved elementary teacher, Ms. Haudan, is retiring this year. With the movement of teachers to various grade levels for the 2024-2025 school year, OHLS is seeking applicants for a 5th grade teacher.

The deadline to apply for both positions is May 24. Qualifications and job descriptions for these and all open positions at OHLS due to resignations/retirements can be found here.

End of school year reminders

May Day Thursday, May 23 for JHHS: Yearbooks will be distributed to JHHS. All fines and fees must be paid prior to this date. Check PowerSchool to ensure your student's fees are paid in full.
JHHS Exam Release May 24, 28-30: All JHHS students will be dismissed at 2 p.m. each exam day if they do not have any make up exams or other obligations to teachers.
May 28 is 4-6 device collection day. Students should bring assigned Chromebook, case and charger. Teachers will check in devices and fees will be applied for missing devices/ chargers or needed repairs. Missing items can be returned through May 30.
May 30 last day of school: K-6 Students released at noon. JHHS students released at 2 p.m.
Commencement information and parade route for graduates through the village will be shared next week.
Medication Reminder:All prescribed and all over the counter medication must be picked by a parent/guardian up from the Health office by June 5th. Contact Nurse Baird with any questions. Any medication that has not been picked up by this date will be disposed of.

Join us as a volunteer tutor in The Foundry!

The Foundry is on the lookout for dedicated community volunteers to support our students in various subjects including pre-algebra, algebra I, geometry, and chemistry. During the 2024-2025 school year, we will need volunteer tutors from 8-10 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. at the junior/senior high school.

The Foundry is also looking for community partners to share their expertise for the Big Futures career and college planning programming. Get in touch if you would like to help our students explore career opportunities in education, health care, real estate, STEM, business, arts, environment, or law.
