A Message from Mr. McMurray....

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, I want to encourage all of our students to stay focused and finish strong. This is a critical time to reflect on growth, remain engaged, and take full advantage of the resources available. Please remind students to utilize the support systems in place—tutoring, mentoring, and structured learning assistance are all available in the Foundry to help students succeed.

A few important year-end reminders:

  • Behavior Expectations: Let’s continue to uphold the high standards of behavior that define our Green Bear community. Finish the year with respect, responsibility, and pride.

  • Final Exams & Projects: Encourage students to prepare early for final assessments and manage their time wisely.

  • Academic Progress: Students are encouraged to stay on top of their academic responsibilities by regularly checking their progress and communicating with teachers. Now is the time to complete any outstanding assignments, seek support when needed, and put forth their best effort to finish the year strong.

  • Locker Clean-Out: Students with lockers will be expected to clean them out during the final week of school. This includes items in the athletic locker rooms.

  • Summer Work: Please stay tuned for updates regarding summer assignments for select courses. Teachers will be reaching out to students via email with specific details over the next two weeks.

  • Athletic Uniforms: As spring sports seasons come to a close, student-athletes are reminded to return all uniforms and equipment promptly to their coaches. Please ensure items are clean and returned by the designated deadline to avoid any end-of-year fines or holds.

We also send our best wishes to all Green Bear athletes as they conclude their spring seasons and enter tournament play. For the most up-to-date athletic schedules and results, please visit our website.

Thank you for your continued partnership in making this a successful school year. Let’s finish strong—together!

Honors Students Unveil Original Research

On Tuesday, April 28, Mr. Nixon hosted the Honors Scientific Research class's annual Celebration of Science Research in the Foundry.

The students were thrilled to share their findings with the community and share the 2026 volume of Ursidae.  This publication features more than a dozen student-written articles detailing the impressive research conducted over the course of the year.  Click here to learn more about this impressive student research.

Science Teacher Jeremy Nixon shares, “Engaging in original research at this level allows students to move beyond the standard curriculum, empowering them to tackle real-world problems and develop advanced critical thinking and data analysis skills that are essential for future academic success.”

Congratulations to our student researchers: Meral Humaida, Zahir Mahmood, Henry Sun, Najjad Alsultan, Quinton Smith, David Seiger, Joan Seo, Sara Hamilton, and Joe Mayer-Heckethorn. By designing and executing their own studies, these students have not only contributed new insights to their fields but also experienced the perseverance and problem-solving required of professional scientists.

A special thank you to our University of Toledo faculty mentors: Dr. Zhaoning Song, Tirtha Bhattarai, Dr. Bruce Bamber, Dr. Youngwoo Seo, Dr. Heather Conti, Dr. Eddie Chou, Dr. Scott Heckathorn, Dr. Dong-Shik Kim.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the Ottawa Hills Schools Foundation, the Ottawa Hills Schools Parent Association, the University of Toledo, and ProMedica for their generous support of this program.  Lastly, thanks to Jessica Loudermilk, Kirsti Glisan, and John Adamski for helping with set-up.

Spanish Club Hosts Copa de Fútbol
This past week the Spanish Club hosted its annual Copa de Fútbol. From Wednesday through Friday, the world language students took over the main gym for the soccer tournament. This year’s tournament was one of the most competitive in school history. Every match was a lesson in strategy, agility, and skill.

After three days of grueling qualifiers, the championship match came down to a legendary clash. In a nail-biting finale, Andy FC managed to secure the title of Champions, narrowly defeating the formidable runners-up, Equipe du Français.

An event of this scale doesn't happen without a dedicated crew behind the scenes. We would like to extend a massive thank you to our faculty sponsors, Señor Claudio Cabrera and Señora Durrand, for their tireless support. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the Spanish Club officers and officials for carrying on this tradition: Quinton Smith, Gracyn Connelly, Charlotte Ellingson, Amogh Sharma, Elliot Schaal, Eylan Humaida, and Emily Chen. Special thanks to physical education teacher Greg Neuendorf for providing the soccer goals.

Congratulations to Andy FC and all the participants who made this year’s Copa de Fútbol a week to remember!

Students Shine in Chemistry Competition
The top three scorers for this year’s regional competition for the Chemistry Olympiad are: Shivani Pindiprolu (1st), Thomas Lathrop (2nd), and Najjad Alsultan (3rd).

Sponsored by the American Chemical Society, the Chemistry Olympiad is a prestigious competition that recognizes the country's top high school chemistry students. In addition to offering national recognition, the competition serves as an excellent way for our chemistry students to prepare for the upcoming AP Chemistry test. Our students continue to excel on these rigorous exams, which is a true testament to their knowledge, curiosity, and commitment to excellence. Their outstanding success is also a direct reflection of our strong science curriculum and the exceptional instruction from our dedicated teachers.

A huge thank-you to Dr. Gloria Kreischer-Gajewicz for her continuous support and coordination in this nationally recognized event. We are so proud of our Green Bears for representing OH at this level!

Building Big Futures: Students Explore the World of Real Estate

On the evening of Thursday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m., the library's Foundry space was transformed into a hub for career exploration as junior and senior students gathered for the Big Futures speaker series. The event explored the real-world complexities of real estate, moving beyond the surface to discuss managing rentals, closing deals, and the fast-paced nature of buying and selling properties. Local professionals shared their personal stories of how they got started, the specific strengths needed to succeed in the industry, and the challenges they have faced along the way, emphasizing how networking can open new doors for students' futures.

The panel featured a wealth of local expertise, including David Effler, Principal Broker and Owner of Effler/Schmitt Co., and Rob Keleghan, Principal Commercial and Industrial Real Estate Broker with Signature Associates, Brian Gruber, Owner and Developer of Ridge Stone Builders and Contractors, and Tatum Lenavitt, owner of Forestvale LLC.  Each speaker provided a unique perspective on the hustle behind the industry, from the aesthetics of staging to the grit of development and brokerage.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Julie Paulenich and the Foundry Advisory Board for organizing such an impactful evening. We also appreciate the support of Darrin Broadway and Jessica Loudermilk in bringing these opportunities to our students. Finally, a special thank you to our guest speakers for sharing their time and professional insights to help inspire the next generation of industry leaders.
