Testing Day is this Wednesday

A reminder that Testing Day is this Wednesday, October 14. This is a crucial day designed to support both academic growth and college/career readiness for all students.

Students in grades 7-8 will participate in alternative programming that focuses on financial literacy, favorable school climate, and effective decision-making. School counselor Nikki Tolliver and business teacher Troy Brown will lead lessons. Additionally, there will be a guest speaker to share strategies on bullying prevention. Students in grades 7-8 will be released at 11:10 a.m. and are expected to complete online learning modules by Thursday, October 15.

Students in grades 9-11 are expected to arrive at school at the regular time and will begin testing promptly at 8:10 a.m. Ending times will vary based on grade levels and testing groups. Upon dismissal (approximately 11:30 a.m.) from the testing rooms, students will be asked to quietly exit the building through the Osborne doors by the main office. Students who are waiting for rides should quietly wait outside on Osborne. There are no afternoon classes and students are expected to return home and work on class assignments. Students in grades 9-11 are expected to complete online learning modules by Thursday, October 15.

Seniors will be working on college applications from 9 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. with English teachers Sarah Eisenbaum and Darrin Broadway. Seniors will need to complete online learning modules by Friday, October 16.

Students must bring regular #2 pencils (not mechanical) and a calculator. Students should not carry a cell phone or wear a smart watch into the testing room. Any devices will need to be powered down and placed into a designated section of the room. Students do not need to bring any of their personal belongings on testing day. Students may have a drink and snack in the testing room. Students with accommodations should have received specific directions from Mrs. Burnworth.

School Safety Message from Dr. Miller

Ottawa Hills Families,

We are writing to address recent concerns that have circulated within our community regarding threats to student safety. We want to assure you that the district takes every reported threat seriously and follows a thorough investigative process in partnership with the Ottawa Hills Police Department.

When a threat is reported, it is investigated promptly and carefully. If a threat is ever determined to be viable, the district will immediately communicate that to families. When families do not receive that communication, it means our process has been followed and the investigation did not result in a continued safety concern. All situations are monitored following an investigation, and the Ottawa Hills Police Department is always involved.

We encourage anyone who sees or hears something concerning to report it immediately through the See Something, Say Something program. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we are grateful for the partnership of our community in keeping Ottawa Hills Schools safe.
