Hello Green Bear Families,

Can you believe that fall is here? With October around the corner I want to make sure parents can plan ahead for the Halloween Parade. On Thursday, Oct. 31, all K-6 students are released at 11 a.m. to go home for lunch and return at 12:30 p.m. Mr. Leeds and the high school marching band will lead students in the Halloween Parade near the elementary school. Please read the letter below for more information and to see a parade route for spectators.

NED's Mindset Mission coming to OHES Oct. 2

A student favorite, NED's Mindset Mission will be returning to our elementary school on October 2.

NED's Mindset Mission is a character education program that centers around three important messages that have lifelong relevance: Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. During the assembly, students will learn about the importance of these three life skills while also enjoying storytelling, magic, humor and yo-yo tricks.

This is assembly is free for our school, and yo-yos are available for optional purchase. Orders should be turned into the school Oct. 2-11.

Celebration of Village Life Parade Oct. 4

The annual Celebration of Village Life Parade will take place Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. before the homecoming football game. Please line the streets and cheer on the parade! Village or school teams/groups/organizations are invited to join the parade, registration required. Monday, Sept. 30 is the last day to register.

Calling all actors grades 4-8

Student in grades 4-8 are welcome to attend open auditions for "The SpongeBob Musical" on Monday, Oct. 7, 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Click the button below for more information, including audition songs, monologues, forms, and more.

Parent-Teacher conferences will take place on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 24 and 25. There is no school for students either of these days. A sign-up link will be sent to parents on Monday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.

Playground reminder for the pups

We all love our pets and we are happy that we have room for your pet to walk on the grounds outside our elementary campus during non-school hours. Please be sure to pick up after your pet, especially near the playground where our students are playing and not watching where they are stepping. We’ve had a few recent problems with children stepping in dog messes during recess and appreciate the help to keep our facilities clean. Pictured is Harrison, our new therapy dog, who never leaves his mess behind.

Hot lunch ordering now open

The Ottawa Hills Schools Parents Association hot lunch fundraiser is now open for ordering. Hot lunch orders are due the 24th of the month.

OHES Back-to-School Checklist

The Cub Cave is open thanks to the help of student council! Students receive cub cash for demonstrating P.A.W.S. and can redeem the cash at the Cub Cave. This is a great way to reinforce positive behavior in our building.

Harrison, our new therapy dog, is having a wagging good time at school.

From the desk of Mrs. Bodziak: A big Green Bear THANK YOU to all the Ottawa Hills students, staff and families who voted for kindergartener Adam Abudulimu's artwork on artsonia. Adam received the Runner Up Award for 2nd place with 652 votes. Congratulations to Adam and Kinder Art Teacher Wendi Danzeisen. He will receive a Finalist Certificate this week for his adorable Pete the Cat art.
