 | Rose’s Message State Testing Begins! Our Green Bears are ready to show how hard work and consistent effort pays off! As we approach state testing, we want all students in grades 3–6 to feel confident, prepared, and ready to do their best. Families can play an important role in setting students up for success with a few simple habits: Prioritize sleep: A good night’s rest (9–11 hours) helps students stay focused and alert. Keep mornings calm: Lay out clothes and prepare backpacks the night before. Arrive at school on time: Starting the day stress-free makes a big difference. Eat a healthy breakfast: Choose foods with protein, whole grains, and fruit to provide steady energy. Stay hydrated: Encourage your child to drink water before school and bring a water bottle each testing day. Encourage a positive mindset: Remind your child that the goal is to try their best—effort matters most!
We are proud of the hard work our students have put in all year. With your support at home, they will be ready to shine! If your child needs to miss a test day, we'll work with you to schedule makeup testing. See the letter regarding state testing from Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Miller, with the schedule for all tests here Rose Gaiffe Elementary Principal rgaiffe@ohschools.org |

Kids Heart Challenge Dear Parents and Guardians, On Monday, April 1st, Ottawa Hills Elementary School will be taking part in the Kids Heart Challenge. This event raises funds for the American Heart Association. The money raised helps support ongoing research and education programs in the fight against heart disease. In addition, it qualifies our school for certificates for physical education equipment. In short, our school is joining the fight against the nation’s number one killer – cardiovascular disease and stroke. The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and effective way to teach heart-healthy living. It emphasizes the importance of physical activity as children continue lifelong fitness activities. The KidsHeart Challenge also provides children with a sense of community support in raising funds for Finn’s Mission and the American Heart Association, which is a way for students to learn more about heart health while supporting the mission of the American Heart Association! Students and their families will learn Hands-Only CPR and the warning signs of a stroke. You never know when YOU will be the "heart hero" for someone.
Family members and friends can support their child’s participation through voluntary contributions. Using the Heart Challenge Sign Up, individuals can easily track their collections. Contributors can also earn thank-you gifts for their donations. There are thank you gifts for each donation level, and they can add up! It is a win-win for everyone.
Please take the time to read the instructions on each KHC envelope. We do ask that contributions come from family and friends, and children DO NOT go door to door. Please make contributions out to The American Heart Association and return any contributions that are collected to Mr. McKee by Friday, April 24th. If you have any questions about the Kids Heart Challenge event, please feel free to contact me at school.

Kevin McKee Kids Heart Challenge Coordinator

 | Community Flyer Posting We are happy to support students and families in sharing school and community activities. To ensure fairness and consistency, all flyers must be approved through the main office and will be posted by school staff in designated areas. Please note that once materials are posted, they may not be removed, replaced, or covered by students or family members. Staff will remove materials when the event has been completed and will return them to the student. Posting space is shared, and multiple flyers may be displayed at the same time. These guidelines help us maintain an organized and respectful environment for all. Thank you for your cooperation and support. |
