Pedestrian Safety Week

March 10 – 14, 2025

What a great time of year to remind ourselves how to share the roadways safely.

  • Walk facing traffic and wheel with traffic
  • Walk across streets at crosswalks and always look left, right, and left again before crossing the street
  • Bikes and scooters follow the road signs; be sure your bikes and scooters have front lights and red back lights/reflectors
  • Drivers: stay alert! Do not allow yourself to be distracted by cell phone use or earbuds (It’s the law)
  • When walking or wheeling in the dark, wear bright reflective clothing, and carry a flashlight so you can be easily seen

Join the Village Stroll on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. Walkers, dogs, strollers should meet at the high school flagpole to join the one-mile family walk. Dress to be seen (literally). The OH Boosters will be selling pizza and goodies before and after the walk.

Join the fun!

Their success had earned them a ticket to the state tournament at Ashland University on May 21-22. Wishing the team all the best!  Special thanks to teacher and POP advisor Karen Fischer.  Thanks to the Ottawa Hills Schools Parent Association for their ongoing support for this extracurricular activitiy.

Green Bears Give Back

Last week, members of the varsity football team and Caitlin Shawaker’s AP Art History class volunteered at the Islamic Food Bank in Toledo. The AP Art History students are currently studying a unit on Islamic art, and their visit provided a hands-on opportunity to connect with the local Muslim community.  Many attended the community Iftar organized by the Muslim Student Association.

Coach Carter saw the experience as more than just an academic extension, calling it “a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community.” Students spent the day helping organize food donations, packing meals, and learning about the food bank’s mission to support families in need.

Both the athletes and art students left with a deeper appreciation for service, culture, and the impact of community outreach. Their efforts reflect the Green Bears' commitment to making a difference beyond the classroom and the field.
