A Message from Mr. McMurray... The second quarter is an exciting time of the school year, with the end of fall sports and the start of basketball and swim seasons. Additionally, Agora Week is just around the corner, featuring fantastic campus workshops and international trips.
Don’t miss the chance to see Footloose, OH Theater’s fall production, along with the band and choir concerts in early December. Please keep an eye on the calendar for Thanksgiving week and the exam schedule at the end of the first semester.
As always, a variety of academic supports are available through our counselors and the staff in the Foundry. We want all of our students to finish strong before winter break.
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you’re able to enjoy quality time with friends and family. |

4. Intentional Acts of Kindness I'm excited to share that Ottawa Hills will be celebrating Intentional Acts of Kindness Week! This week is all about making a positive impact on those around us by taking small, meaningful actions to brighten someone's day. As part of our Intentional Acts of Kindness Day we'll be participating in a hygiene drive to support those in need in our community. Our donations will go to Family House (only family homeless shelter in Toledo), A Domestic Violence Shelter and Cherry Street Mission. Here's how you can help:
- Bring Hygiene Items: We're collecting new and unused items like soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, lotion, body spray and feminine hygiene products. Items can be travel or regular size.
- Drop-Off Location: There will be a black basket in the teacher workroom to place items in or to the main office.
Fun Fact : Giving back can significantly benefit your mental health. When you engage in acts of kindness or volunteer your time, it triggers a release of endorphins, often referred to as a "helpers" high. This release can reduce stress, alleviate feelings of anxiety, and even combat symptoms of depression. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together and make a lasting impact. I also encourage all of us to be intentional with our kindness, thoughtfulness and giving back. |

Boys XC Finishes 3rd in Columbus It was an incredible day for Green Bear cross country at the State finals at Obetz Fortress Stadium on Saturday. The boys team finished an impressive third place and the girls team finished 13th. According to coach Nixon, “This was an incredibly fast race and competitive race. Interesting data from the races: the boys had an average time that was 17 seconds faster than the team that got 2nd in the state 2 years ago. And the girls had an average time that was 35 seconds faster than the girls team that got 10th two years ago. So, it’s worth noting that the 2 fastest teams in school history ran at the state meet on Saturday. I’m incredibly proud of our runners.” Boys team members included: Joe Mayer-Heckathorn, Kaed Egan, Thomas Lathrop, Quinton Smith, Alex Cooper, Miles Wharry, William Connelly, Griffin Wilson, and Seamus Kling. The girls team included: Emily Chen, Natalie Nixon, Mercy Alamina, Evelyn Sandretto, Elsa Klaas, Freya Klaas, Audrey Nixon, Ruth Mezo, and Evelyn Parsons. Congratulations to all runners and to coaches Jeremy Nixon, Mark Sandretto, and Emily Nixon. This was a remarkable season! Results can be viewed by clicking here. |

Band & Choir Chairs The chairs in the band/choir room were recently replaced because many were damaged or broken and had been in circulation for nearly 40 years. On behalf of Instrumental Music Director Michael Leeds and Vocal Music Director Hayley Hoss, we thank the Ottawa Hills Music Theater Association, the Ottawa Hills School Parent Association, and the Ottawa Hills Schools Foundation for providing the funding to make this possible. |
