Late Start Reminder

Reminder that Thursday, Feb. 1 is a planned late start day to allow teachers and staff time for professional development. School will begin for all K-12 students at 10 a.m.

State of the District is next Wednesday

This years' annual "State of the District" will focus on the financial future of our district. A question and answer period will follow the presentation for audience participation. Can't attend in person? The evening will be live streamed here, and a recording shared in next weeks' district newsletter.

OHES recognizes "Kids of Character" for the Quarter

Each quarter students in the elementary school are nominated by teachers and to be recognized as Kids of Character. These students demonstrate what it means to exemplify P.A.W.S. (Positive, Accountable, Well-mannered, with Self control) every day.

AFS and Ottawa Hills Students Celebrate Cultural Exchange Weekend

AFS and our Diversity/International Student Exchange Club hosted Diversity Weekend this month. AFS international exchange students attending schools in northwest Ohio from Bulgaria, Austria, Germany, Suriname, Latvia, Chile, Italy, and Sweden presented information on their cultures. The group then enjoyed activities at the Imagination Station and the UT Rec Center.

Lindy Sherry, the AFS Liaison, uses the weekend as a mid-year check-in with exchange students, offering them an opportunity to do some reflections on their experiences thus far. Ottawa Hills has been in partnership with AFS since 1962.

Operating levy officially on the March ballot

The Lucas County Board of Elections has confirmed that Ottawa Hills Local Schools' operating levy will be on the March 19, 2024 ballot. The Board of Education is asking voters to approve the 12.9 mill operating levy that will generate $2.3 million and cost homeowners approximately $38/month per $100,000 in taxable value. Information on district finances will be presented at the State of the District on January 31 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Congratulations January Students and Athletes of the Month

Congratulations to the January Students and Athlete of the Month! Each month students are chosen by a committee of faculty and staff at the JHHS to be recognized by the Board of Education for excelling in citizenship, community service, extracurricular, leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship, and/or commitment. Congratulations to: Ahmad Anjum (9); Keely Stanfield (7); Esther Yang (11); Luke Gnepper (12); and Ava Jessee (12)!

The Acting Out! production of "Little Mermaid, Jr." will run Feb. 9-11. Tickets can be purchased here. You can read a synopsis and see the cast and crew announcements on the OHMTA website here.

Kids Heart Challenge at OHES
From the American Heart Association: "Please sign your student up for our Kids Heart Challenge so they can learn how to keep their hearts and brains healthy while raising funds to help kids with special hearts. By completing Finn’s Mission, they’ll also learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR and how to recognize a stroke." Learn more here. Register your student here.

Acting Out! registration now open

Acting Out! is an acting/leadership development program for students in grades 3-8. Focus areas include: acting & movement, audition tips, expressive speaking, technical theatre, and vocal performance. Registration information and more details at OHMTA here.

Singing Valentines are ready to serenade
The tradition continues as the Choraliers will be singing their way around Ottawa Hills and the Toledo area again this year. More details on the OHMTA website here. All proceeds will be donated to help Ohioans in need through Neighborhood Bridges.

Parents/guardians can update their contact preferences in school messenger; however, since this information is imported through Powerschool registration, please report any errors to your student's building administrator.
