Prom is right around the corner, taking place on May 11. After Prom provides junior and senior students and their guests with a way to celebrate the night in a safe, secure, and substance-free atmosphere after the dance. It takes a village to put this event together. 
 
Please consider helping by:

"Home to Home" Car Wash

Home to Home is a community partnership between Ottawa Hills and Scott High Schools that helps foster community connections. The group will be hosting a car wash on Sunday, May 5 from 12-3 p.m. in the Ottawa Hills School parking lot. All proceeds will benefit Hope Toledo and their "mission is to support and ensure high-quality education, from preschool to postsecondary and trade school, for every young person in the city of Toledo, to create generational economic change for the betterment of our families and community."

Exploring Big Futures in Building and Design

The Foundry Career and College programming continues. OH community members Rich Effler, Mark Pawlaczyk, Todd Kime, and Rob Weaver will be offering an exciting panel discussion that will focus on career opportunities in architecture, plumbing, construction, interior design, project management, 3D rendering and models, and master carpentry on April 29 from 6:30- 8 p.m.

smART Show 2024           

The Art Department would like to extend a big congratulations to the following award winners at Thursday’s smart show! With hundreds of pieces of art displayed, all of our junior high and high school art students showcased their talent, technique, and creativity throughout the school.

 

Congratulations to our 2024 smART First Place prize winner, Vaughn Mackey!

Bella Drouillard, Second place, and to Max Nichols, the Third Place winner.

Many thanks to @bartzviviano for donating some flowers for the smART show. The flowers were used to create a flower mandala in the style of artist Andy Goldsworthy.

 

Shout out to those students who received honorable mentions at Thursday’s smART show. Congratulations to Hayley Gibson, Iman Badr, Colin Potts, Audrey Kelm, and Erin Wilmore.

 

Warren Lampkowski-Sowle is the 2024 winner of the Todd and Nancy Kime Sight Award for her beautiful ceramic piece. Congratulations, Warren!

 

Congratulations to Evelyn Parson, winner of the 2024 Ottawa Hills community Art award for her body of ceramic work. Way to go, Evelyn!

 

Congratulations to Josie Hemke, Keely Stanfield, Jasmine Hajjar, Eli Olah, Alice Denny, and Lila Smith for receiving the Art Depot awards. Special thanks to Jules from the Art Depot for sponsoring these awards and providing a generous gift card to each recipient.

 

Thanks to many people for making the smARTshow possible, including show organizers Kristin Johnson, Caitlin Shawaker, Michael Leeds, Hayley Hoss, and Ben McMurray. Thank you to teachers who displayed student work and/or shared their workspace. Thank you to the many NHS volunteers and to Eric Swisher, Don Monroe, and John Adamski for making sure the school looked its best. Thanks to Trevor Hug and Paige Espiritu for handling technology. Students Make an Impact at Moms House

Last week, teacher Stacy Richards and students from her health classes volunteered at Mom’s House They cooked lunch, did yard work, played with the younger children. “The impact our students have on the children by giving them individual attention is priceless.  What a great day!” shared Mrs. Richards.  To learn more about Mom’s House click here.

Reece Hill Hits 200 Career Goals

On Monday, April 22 senior Reece Hill scored his 200 career goal during tonight’s game against St John’s Jesuit. Hill scored 4 goals tonight to contribute to the Green Bears 10-5 victory over the Titans. Congratulations, Reece!

 

The Green Bears defeated St John’s Jesuit 10-5 Monday night at Niedermeier Stadium. The team dominated both offensively and defensively. Reece Hill scored 4 goals, reaching his 200-career goal. Reece continues to hold the all-time scoring record for Ottawa Hills. Reece went on to score nine more goals last week, bringing his total to 209.  Stay tuned as he approaches the state record for career goals.  The current state record holder is Ethan Haney from New Concord John Glenn with 214 career goals. Congratulations to the Green Bears, Reece Hill, and coach Best.

Youth Ethics Symposium

Juniors Cole Weaver and Rose Hajjar attended the Youth Ethics Symposium, an event sponsored by the Better Business Bureau, at Owens community College today. Students from all over Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan were in attendance and learned about the importance of ethics and good decision-making through core values like acceptance, fairness, respect, accountability, compassion, honesty, kindness, courage, and commitment.

 

Guest speakers shared some words of wisdom, personal anecdotes, and stories of facing adversity. They offered mentoring opportunities and support to attendees. Presenters included Toledo Public School Superintendent Romulus Durant, Ginny Boggess head women’s basketball coach at the University of Toledo, Anthony Gayton and Zane Slusher from the Special Investigations Unit at Central Insurance Agency, and Joseph Perez from Hillsdale College. Additionally, students participated in two ethics workshops to sharpen their moral compasses. Many thanks to Bonnie Zaruca and Lane Montz from the Better Business Bureau for the invitation.

Hardman and Elliott Honored at Spring Sports Assembly

Chris Hardman and Matt Elliott were honored on Friday, April 26th by Mayor Marc Thompson, OHHS Athletics, and the OH Boosters.  Chris Hardman’s 700 wins and Matt Elliott’s 30 years of service as a statistician for the baseball and football programs are incredible milestones for our programs!  We honor greatness and appreciate their service!  Special thanks to Rick Kaifas, Greg Neuendorf, Mayor Thompson, Kim Grimm, Chris Hamilton, and Sue Hague Rogers (plaque design).

Weaver Recognized for Excelling in Spanish Language

Junior Cole Weaver was recognized for his outstanding achievement in Spanish language and culture at a reception sponsored by the Association of Two Toledos. Cole was nominated by teachers Ingrid Mendez and Tim Hood.  Congratulations, Cole!  According to the website, “The Association of Two Toledos exists to promote the continuing relationship between Toledo, Ohio and Toledo, Spain.  To this end we sponsor scholarships and support programs in Northwest Ohio that increase cultural awareness, education and exchanges with Spain.  We promote participation in the activities of other organizations which foster understanding between American communities and peoples of other nations.”  To learn more, click here.
